Super-Efficient Boilers with Passive Flue Gas Heat Recovery for Heating and Hot Water System
See the results here: Abbeyfield Care Homes - Boiler Replacement
Hatchmill is a largely purpose-built Care Home with some older sections. It has recently undergone extensive construction work that has seen the number of bedrooms increased from 36 to 48. The nature of the business means that the premises are occupied at all times and energy consumption is constant throughout the day and night.
When Touchstone Energy Services were commissioned to carry out an energy survey at Hatch Mill Nursing Home in Farnham it became clear that the 3 x Ideal Concorde CXA condensing gas boilers in situ were nearing the end of their lives and with the planned extension to the building would no longer be fit for purpose.
Furthermore these boilers were only delivering in the region of 70% efficiency with the result that gas consumption had been rising inexorably over the years.
Our Solution: Touchstone recommended immediate replacement of the existing atmospheric boilers with three Remeha Quinta Eco Plus 65 systems. This super condensing heating system recovers waste heat energy equivalent to 15% of the gross input and pre-heats the incoming cold water feeding the Direct Hot Water (DHW) system. The system can achieve up to 48% lower carbon emissions and corresponding fuel savings compared with other ‘best practice’ systems, delivering an overall system efficiency of 97% of gas calorific value at 82/71°C. This is effectively ‘free energy’ and means lower fuel bills for the nursing home.
